ABOUT US
OUR MISSION is to promote all aspects of the photographic arts and to educate, aid and benefit, by mutual cooperation, those interested in photography and the photographic arts in and around Benoni, East Rand.
Benoni Camera Club is a non‐profit club catering primarily for the amateur photographer. The club is open to all persons interested in the art and science of photography, regardless of background or profession.
We are a group of photographers bound together by our love of photography and the photographic arts.
Benoni Camera Club membership is diverse with varying interests and experience levels in both digital and film photography.
The core operation and management of the Club is carried out by a combination of Committee Members. We strive to run the Club as professionally and efficiently as a commercial enterprise.
Benoni Camera Club is held today in high regard in South African photographic circles, competing very successfully in inter‐club competitions, and its members have numerous successes on the Salon circuit.
Benoni is proud to have among its membership photographers who have achieved the highest level of honour bestowed by PSSA, who are always willing to coach and guide the newer members.
We hope that our club can continue to offer its members growth, excitement and fulfillment in the pursuit of their hobby.

HISTORY
1956 – 1958 Origin
The club has its origins in the English Electric Photographic Society, which voted to open membership to the public on 1 March 1956.
In January 1958 it merged with the Burmco and Delfos clubs and absorbed the membership of Boksburg Camera Club which closed down in November 1957. Finally, at the AGM on 20 March 1958 the members voted to rename the club to The Benoni Camera Club.
In the early days, there were very few judges available on the East Rand, and the club affiliated to the Johannesburg Photographic Society who provided guidance in the development of the club.
Amy first joined The Benoni Camera Club in April 1968, and has served the highest level ever since.
While teaching history and English to matrics for 34 years, I found photography a relaxing, creative hobby, which I shared for years with my late husband Reg.
In April 2018, Amy was rewarded with 50 years of membership by Benoni Camera Club, and we are truly blessed to still have Amy actively participating in 2024.
